Toronto’s Condo Boom | West End Phoenix

My illustration of the rise of Toronto’s new condo developments and their clash with some of the older homes of the city. Is it beneficial growth or destructive chaos?

It was a blast working on such a big detailed piece for the debut issue of West End Phoenix a monthly community newspaper for Toronto’s West End, dreamed up by musician (Rheostatics), writer and publisher Dave Bidini. Alongside Dave, I also worked with the amazing Melanie Morassutti and Robyn Colangelo. It was a super fun project pushing this illustration into more and more chaos just like the Toronto housing market.

We didn’t really know the direction the article would take when I first started drawing the condos so we decided to show both sides of the affects of the developments with flowers and pollinators thriving under a backdrop of destructive chaos.

Some of my inking process for this humongous piece….
