Imbolc Mural | Winterfest, Hamilton, ON

It was great to get to work with my partner, Jamie Lawson on another mural and this time in our hometown of Hamilton for Winterfest! We painted this big badger in four hours and with an audience of little cold kids bundled up in snow suits. Kids these days really don’t know what a badger is! I’ll let it slide this year kids.

The topic of the Winterlore arts portion of the festival curated by Tara Bursey was on the topic of renewal, and the transformation of Winter to Spring with the traditions surrounding it. Jamie and I chose to focus on Imbolc, a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of spring. Imbolc was traditionally a time of weather divination, and the old tradition of watching to see if serpents or badgers came from their winter dens may be a forerunner of the North American Groundhog Day. Here’s some of pics of our process that evening.
